Toolbar Commands

The following table lists the commands that can appear in toolbars.

Right-click on a toolbar to customize which buttons appear on it.

File comparisons

Icon Command Description
Stop toolbar button Stop Stops the active file comparison.
Start/Recompare toolbar button Start/Recompare Reloads and recompares the files in the current window.
Previous Change toolbar button Previous Change Moves the cursor to the beginning of the previous change.
Next Change toolbar button Next Change Moves the cursor to the beginning of the next change.
Copy From Left toolbar button Replace File to Right with Current File Replaces the contents of the file to the right with the contents of the current file.
Copy From Right toolbar button Replace File to Left With Current File Replaces the contents of the file to the left with the contents of the current file.
Automatically Merge to Common Ancestor (Middle) File or Folder toolbar button Automatically Merge to Common Ancestor (Middle) File This command merges the first and third files into the common ancestor (middle) file.
Two-Way Comparison (Vertical) toolbar button Two-Way Comparison (Vertical) Splits the active comparison window two ways, vertically. This enables you to compare two files side-by-side.
Three-Way Comparison (Vertical) toolbar button Three-Way Comparison (Vertical) Splits the active comparison window three ways, vertically. This enables you to compare three files side-by-side.
Preferences toolbar button Preferences... Displays a window that you can use to set Merge preferences.

Folder comparisons

Icon Command Description
Stop toolbar button Stop Stops the active folder comparison or file re-test operations.
Start/Recompare toolbar button Start/Recompare Reloads and recompares the folder comparison.
Select Changed Items toolbar button Select Changed Items Selects all rows containing changed files.
Launch File Comparisons Windows for Selected Items toolbar button Launch File Comparisons Windows for Selected Items Compares the selected files in the list. A file comparison window is opened for each pair of selected files.
Replace File to Right With Current File toolbar button Copy From Left Enables you to copy selected files and folders from left to right.
Replace File to Left With Current File toolbar button Copy From Right Enables you to copy selected files and folders from right to left.
Automatically Merge to Common Ancestor (Middle) File or Folder toolbar button Automatically Merge to Common Ancestor (Middle) File or Folder Merges selected files from the first and third folders into the common ancestor (middle) folder.
Two-Way Comparison (Vertical) toolbar button Two-Way Comparison (Vertical) Splits the active comparison window two ways, vertically. This enables you to compare two files or folders side-by-side.
