Merge might require certain Operating System updates to be installed before it will operate correctly. The recommended Full Setup package available at the Product Downloads and Updates website or on the Merge cd-rom will check for, and install required Operating System updates. The Compact Setup package does not include Operating System updates.
If you choose to install the updates yourself, the information below will enable you to determine which ones are required, and from where to obtain them (you will need a connection to the Internet). If your computer has either Windows XP or Internet Explorer 6 installed, it is very unlikely that you will need to install any Operating System updates.
Updates for Online Help
Merge requires Internet Explorer 4.0 SP1 or later to be installed on your computer so that it can display online help, and create reports for file and folder comparisons.
The Merge Setup packages will check for the presence of Internet Explorer 4.0 SP1 or later versions and will halt if it cannot be found:
Even if you have Internet Explorer 4.0 or later installed, your system might still require an update to the Internet Explorer help system. You can check which version of Internet Explorer you have installed by selecting the About Internet Explorer command in Internet Explorer’s Help menu. The table below will tell you whether you need a Help System update.

Updates for Core XML Services (MSXML6)
Merge requires Microsoft’s XML Core Services v6.0 component to be installed in order to generate HTML reports. The Compact Setup package does not include this component. You will need to download and install it from Microsoft’s website .
